Our morning cup of joe should help us take on the day – not destroy the environment. We operate Caffe’ Tlazo near Crescent Beach on Lake Michigan….one of the best places to walk along the water in our county or even in Door County. We care about sustainable practices because it really matters when you love to enjoy the outdoors in Door and Kewaunee County as we do.
Coffee is the world’s most commonly traded commodity after crude oil, and tea is the world’s most consumed beverage after water. So if tea and coffee are up there with oil and water on the world’s stage, then we know that having sustainable business practices is of paramount importance. Our desire at Caffe’ Tlazo is to feature the best handcrafted fair traded and eco-friendly coffee drinks, tasty bites and beverages while you linger and enjoy our comfortable, homey surroundings.
Some key points in our quest for sustainable coffee and tea for our customers include:
- Caffe’ Tlazo takes seriously the problems that disposable hot cups can cause and seeks to offer sustainable alternatives. There are smart, eco-friendly disposable cup options available today. Your favorite local chain may not be ready to ditch its non-recyclable, non-compostable single-use cups. Caffe’ Tlazo offers an eco-friendly option for customers to drink their coffee from a ceramic mug. Caffe’ Tlazo also offers “to-go” cups that are 100% compostable. These cups are non-toxic and durable. Use them for espresso, coffee, tea, or other hot beverages.
- Caffe’ Tlazo seeks out the coffee and tea that has traveled the least distance to reach you and at the same time also aims at supporting local, independent farms and roasters.
- Caffe’ Tlazo offers Organic coffee and tea options. Coffee and tea that bear organic certification are more eco-friendly because they are grown and processed without toxic chemicals. They are cultivated and harvested in ways that seek to protect sensitive ecosystems and spare workers from exposure to harmful pesticides and herbicides.
- Caffe’ Tlazo offers Fair Trade Options. Certified fair trade coffee and tea help ensure living wages and safe working conditions for farmers via certification agencies like Transfair and Rainforest Alliance. These agencies include rigorous environmental standards in their certification requirements.
- Caffe’ Tlazo helps our customers “Loosen Up.” We use quality tea infusers with our loose leaf tea and this practice replaces a huge number of (questionably compostable) tea bags.
- Caffe’ Tlazo composts the roast. Tea leaves and especially coffee grounds make outstanding compost. Composting tea leaves and coffee grounds helps keep organic waste out of waste baskets and landfills ultimately making great soil for our composting partners.
In summary, Caffe’ Tlazo is proud to welcome you to a community gathering spot, coffee house and food spot on your journey to and from Door County. We hope to provide you with an experience that feels inviting, comfortable and warm while also eco-friendly and sustainable to our beautiful Lake Michigan peninsula environment.
